Eas' Coas'
Hello sports fans.
Before I start, a couple of things. Two of my best mates from back home have had some brilliant news recently, so this post is for them. 1stly, peeek ehh otherwise known as Ross got himself into film school which is an outrageous achievement! Fizin. 2ndly Caz aka quid pro quo et cetera Caroline Cloughley and her genius art brain managed to get into the Scotsman on her 1st ever public display of her work. And I quote...
"

One of the most desirable jewellery collections at this years ECA show was new graduate Caroline Cloughleys. This fantastical collection is inspired by Carolines dreams of butterflies and features some beautiful jewellery utilising materials such as silver, gold, bloodstone and resin. If Carolines collection sets your heart a flutter then all pieces from her show are available to buy, e-mail ccloughley1@hotmail.com or catch her pieces on sale in Form (0141-225 8422) from 5 August to 5 September..."
Gutted I can't be back to get blotto with you guys but should be back mid sept.
Sincere apologies for the lack of verbiage on fizin recently - the internet cafes are ridiculously expensive, style. So whit's gaan an? Well we left Hawaii, arrived in Canada, and are now in SoCal, or Southern California. (LA to be precise) How did we get here? What happened on the way? Read on..
Waikiki, Honolulu. Our shuttle was due to leave at about 6 in the morning, so instead of getting an early nights sleep and wake up feeling fresh for the plane ride, Millar, myself and the entire congregation of the Waikiki Beachside hostel converged on the beach, complete with alcohol. The reports are sketchy, but the rumour going about is that I was swimming in the pacific about 2 hours before we were due to lift off. Bonus!
And so we arrived a few hours later baggy-eyed in Vancouver. What a quality airport, and what a quality city!! Our first day Millar and I take a small walk round the main park, which turns into a mini marathon. Nearing the end of our epic walking adventure, I had to rub my eyes when I saw this...
A game of cricket in the middle of Canada, fizin. Millardo and I sit and watch while talking to some posh couple and drinking Corona, surprisingly.
Another wee shot of Vancouver...
We stayed in the middle of flamersville, otherwise known as the Davie Villiage. Millar and I watched the final of Euro 2004 over brekky in a gay bar and managed to win a few bottles of bevvy!
We catch the short bus journey later on over the border to Seattle, US of A. Now apologies to anyone that lives there, but that place is a shithole. We only had a couple of nights there and still managed to witness 3 stabbings, 2 murders and a partridge in a pear tree. We did manage to catch Fahrenheit 9/11 which was a quality film. That guy Bush is a tit.
And then it was on again to San Fancisco. This was by means of a 19 hour bus journey, accompanied by the 'dregs of society' as Millar put it. Clearly no sleep was managed with some bloke next to me making his 5 year old kid sleep on the floor so he could get 2 seats to himself. Rage consumed me as I had to restrain myself from breaking his legs when he put them up on my seat. That guy is a tit.
And so we arrived!!! San Fran is one of the best cities I've been in. We get greeted the customary SF way - some bum walks up to us, asks us for a 'spare dollar man?' then steals money out of the taxi we were about to jump into. Fizin.
We meet up with Nick, B's mate from back home who now stays over here with his wife Michelle and his sis Steph. All of them completely quality quality people - and good drinkers to boot!
We drop out bags off at Nick's work, then head out to Fisherman's Wharf. We get a good view of the bay area from the cable car on the back to the financial district...
That's Alcatraz island in the middle of the bay. Yesh, Alcatrash. The next day we head over to the island, and I take an opportune moment during out audio tour to take a piss into Al Capone's toilet...
We also walked up the world famous Lombard St...
During our trip in SF, Nick, Michelle and Steph were kind enough to put us up in their house in El Granada, half an hour south of the city. Folks, Laura and I can't stress how much we owe you for letting us stay - you are all truly legends.
Nick needed to do about 2 hours of studying a day for his exams coming up, but that might have happened on a Saturday night! Instead, we head to a bar, get minced, watch a fight, and head zig-zagged home...
On the Monday, we sadly say our goodbyes to the Simpsons, head into the city and pick up Franz, our rental car.
We make our way down the east coast of California to Santa Barbara and spend the night trying to sleep next to the loudest train track on earth. We leave the choo-bloody-choo hostel and head to the Grand Canyon via Las Vegas. I did not expect to see such a breathtaking sight...
8 hours drive was worth it. And it was back to Vegas for some late night gambling and prime rib steak. We get a great deal on the cheesiest hotel I've ever seen, and stay there for our last night...
Ladies and gentlemen I give you.... Excalibur Cheeese!!!!! We also managed to catch one of the water and light shows infront of the Bellagio which was fizin...
And so it was another long drive down to LA this time. We've just been driving about all the homes of the stars - I thought Millar was about to have a heart attack when we went by the Osbourne's mansion.
So it's now the 17th of July, 2004. Millar departs for New York in 4 days while I stay in LA and do my flying thang, can't fecking wait!! Will be a bit mental not having some burd to avoid in the mornings at the risk of getting your head kicked in, but it's time to move on!
I'll be changing the whole layout and ethos of fizin sometime soon. Keep an eye out.
Stay classy, San Diego. (You'll get it in a few months)
